Brian Palaia is a highly educated and experienced Town Manager with over 16 years of experience in his field. Brian is constantly searching for ways to improve his already impressive skill-set and bring further efficiency to the communities he manages. Among his many skills he is particularly knowledgeable in public works, economic development, public safety, team building, media relations, grant writing and public finance. Brian is currently serving as Secretary for the Board of Directors of Municipalities Organized for Regional Effectiveness.

Brian Palaia began his studies at the University of Connecticut where he earned his Bachelor’s of Science degree from the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources. A year later he obtained his Certificate in Construction Management from the University of Hartford. Ever the one for improving his career through education, Brian went back to school at the Salve Regina University where he earned his MBA in 2007. Several years later Brian accepted to attend two prestigious programs designed to teach senior local government managers and participants new strategies and more innovative techniques to increase efficiency in their professional careers. The Williamsburg Institute and the Weldon Cooper Center for Public Service at the University of Virginia did so by giving them the skills to improve upon the existing strategies and develop innovative solutions for a higher performing organization.
Early on in his career Brian Palaia was a budding entrepreneur. He started and managed a full service landscape design and maintenance company. His managing skills shone brightly even during the beginning of his career as he grew the company from zero clients to over 100 recurring clients in just three years. He moved on to become the Assistant Project Manager for the Department of Economic and Community Development where he managed the grant programs for infrastructure, real-estate and brownfield remediation. Some notable accomplishments include: obtained funding for the development of the riverfront convention center in the state capitol; managed over $300 million in redevelopment projects in Connecticut’s urban cities and he created over 300 acres of new sites available for economic development.
Over the next several years Brian Palaia held a variety of esteemed positions such as Director of Planning & Economic Development, Deputy Township Manager and Town Manager in Connecticut, New Jersey and Vermont. His accomplishments include, but are certainly not limited to: the implementation of an early retirement program that saves over $100,000 annually, restructured health insurance plans that reduced premiums by 50%, the implementation of staffing reorganization plan that saves over $1.1 million in salary and wage costs annually, and restructured debt to reduce costs by $200,000 annually and rebuilt the Township surplus from a deficit to a positive. Brian Palaia was most recently the Town Manager for Oxford, Massachusetts where he managed the general affairs of the town as Public Safety Director, Chief Procurement Officer, Personnel Officer, Chief Financial Officer and is in charge of intergovernmental relations, labor negotiations, hiring and policy development. Brian is an integral part of any town he manages. He has a stellar record of success and has the experience and knowledge to bring positive change to his community regardless of any obstacles.
